The monthly data show grants fell from June's 1,602. The agency says the June rules are affecting the figures because many cases need additional material based on citizenship-test results before a decision can be made. It expects larger swings in monthly totals.
Under the new rules, the normal residence requirement increased from five years to eight. Applicants must also meet self-support, Swedish-language and civics requirements, while the good-conduct test was broadened to conduct outside Sweden. The changes applied immediately to applications already pending on 6 June.
Another 2,369 citizenship applications arrived in July. The number of open cases stood at 103,598 at month-end.
