Opposition to the Left Party joining Sweden’s government has risen to 42%, while resistance to the Greens has fallen to 20%, according to a new October poll. The Sweden Democrats remain the party most voters want kept out, at 46%.

The Indikator Opinion survey, reported by Ekot, puts opposition to a Left Party role 11 percentage points above March’s 31%. Over the same period, opposition to the Greens fell from 30% to 20%.

Stockholm University political scientist Jan Teorell told the broadcaster that the prolonged government-formation process could help explain the shift against the Left Party. He suggested more voters may have noticed its role in blocking a government. That is his interpretation of the change.

The figures measure resistance to parties entering government, rather than how many people intend to vote for them.
