Social Democrats call for a parliamentary vote on Kristersson

The Social Democrats want Parliament to vote on Ulf Kristersson after the Centre Party’s attempt to assemble a centrist government failed, shifting the dispute over Sweden’s next government towards a test of the Moderate leader.
Anders Ygeman, the Social Democrats’ deputy parliamentary group leader, made the demand in an interview with Sveriges Radio on Monday. He also urged the Centre and Left parties to abandon the red lines preventing a new government.
Ygeman declined to specify which parties the Social Democrats wanted in a cabinet. He told SVT that new red lines or wish lists would make forming a government harder, while keeping the party’s exclusion of cooperation with the Sweden Democrats.
Centre leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist reported on Monday that her week of talks had found no majority for a centrist cabinet. Speaker Andreas Norlén will now consult party representatives by telephone before announcing the next step, the Riksdag said. The parliamentary notice sets out consultations rather than a date for a vote on Kristersson.
