SMHI says the risk of forest fires is very to extremely high across large parts of Götaland and Svealand, with 15 counties covered by a new fire-risk message.

The SMHI alert runs until 23:00 on Tuesday. It covers Blekinge, Skåne, Kronoberg, Halland, Jönköping, Östergötland, Södermanland, Örebro, Västmanland, Stockholm, Uppsala, Dalarna, Västra Götaland, Värmland and Kalmar.

SMHI says fires can start through burning, sparks from machinery or lightning, then spread easily. A fire in a power-line corridor could disrupt electricity or telecoms.

The message does not itself impose a nationwide fire ban. Municipalities and county administrative boards decide local bans. Residents and visitors should check the current map before lighting fires and use particular care with work or machinery outdoors.
