SMHI says 15 Swedish counties will face high to very high forest-fire risk on Sunday, with extreme risk expected in parts of eastern Svealand.

The new SMHI message runs from midnight until 23:00. It covers Kronoberg, Jönköping, Östergötland, Södermanland, Örebro, Västmanland, Stockholm, Uppsala, Dalarna, Gävleborg, Västra Götaland, Värmland, Kalmar, Blekinge and Skåne counties.

SMHI says fires could start from open flames, machinery sparks or lightning and spread easily through dry forest and land. Fires in power-line corridors could also disrupt electricity and telecom networks.

Residents should check local fire bans and use extreme care with outdoor fires and heavy machinery. A county-wide ban remains in force in Östergötland. Showers may reduce the risk locally, SMHI says.
