Green Party sets three climate demands for next government

Sweden's Green Party has set three conditions for the next government, putting climate administration and long-term investment into the post-election negotiations.

In its proposal, Miljöpartiet says the Environment Ministry should be restored and a climate cabinet should meet under the prime minister. The party says climate goals should shape decisions on the economy, energy, transport and jobs.

The demands are a negotiating position. They would require government decisions and budget support before taking effect.

The third condition is a ten-year climate fund for rail, electrification, energy efficiency and climate adaptation. The proposal does not state the fund’s total size or explain its full financing structure.

That missing figure is central to the next stage. The party promises a long-term route outside the annual competition with welfare spending, but the cost, funding source and terms of any agreement remain open.
