Sweden adopts first national strategy to seize criminal profits

Sweden has adopted its first national strategy for recovering the proceeds of crime, setting one approach for identifying, securing, confiscating and managing criminal assets.

The goal is to strip criminals of unexplained assets and redirect the value to victims or the public, the government said. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer said authorities would work more systematically to find and recover those assets.

The four-stage plan starts with finding assets, then preventing them from being hidden or moved, confiscating them and managing the proceeds. The government says better domestic and international coordination, clearer regulation and stricter performance tracking will support the work.
