Sweden allocates SEK 297 million for humanitarian crises

Sweden is directing SEK 297 million to humanitarian aid as wars, prolonged conflicts and natural disasters push needs higher while the global relief system faces a funding shortage.

The government package covers seven allocations from Sweden’s aid budget. It includes SEK 75 million for Sudan, SEK 50 million for Syria and SEK 27 million for Ukraine.

The Sudan allocation funds food, water and protection through the World Food Programme, UNHCR and another relief organisation. Syria’s share goes to UNHCR, the World Food Programme and the International Committee of the Red Cross, while Ukraine’s funding supports protection, emergency aid and winter preparations.

Another SEK 20 million goes to UNHCR work in Lebanon, SEK 15 million to food assistance in Somalia and SEK 10 million via Sida to the World Health Organization’s Jordan office for medical evacuations from Gaza.

The largest single allocation is SEK 100 million in flexible core support for UNHCR. The government said that brings Sweden’s total 2026 support for the agency to SEK 1.023 billion and lets it direct funds where needs are greatest.
