The Social Democrats say they will vote for the revised government proposal allowing 14-year-olds to be held criminally responsible for serious offences.

Sweden's current age of criminal responsibility is 15. The government previously pursued a reduction to 13 but withdrew that version. Parliament is expected to decide on the revised proposal during its August sitting.

Social Democratic justice spokesperson Teresa Carvalho said the new version is closer to the party's previous position.

A TV4-commissioned Novus survey reported 45 per cent support, 45 per cent opposition and 10 per cent undecided. Among Social Democratic voters, 69 per cent opposed the proposal.

The survey was conducted between 11 and 17 June. TV4's published article did not disclose its sample size or margin of error, so the figures should be treated as a reported snapshot rather than evidence of a wider trend.
