Left Party MP Mohamed Abdukardir Ali is now on sick leave from Sweden’s parliament, with no date set for his return.

Ali called before 08:00 on Monday, 12 October, and said he was ill, Mats Carlstedt at Parliament’s chamber office told SVT. His sick leave will continue until further notice.

Ali had applied for two weeks’ leave when Parliament opened, following reports of suspected electoral fraud during his personal election campaign. Those two weeks have now passed, but he has still not been told whether that application was approved, SVT reports.

Carlstedt said the Speaker had discussed the rules governing Ali’s requested leave with the parties’ parliamentary group leaders. Under Parliament’s rules, a medical certificate is required after eight days of sick leave.
