A Swedish payslip is usually compact, but the small rows matter. Before payday becomes routine, check the basics: your gross salary, the pay period, tax deduction, vacation pay, overtime, absence, benefits and the bank account where money is sent.

If you recently arrived for work, confirm that your employer has the right tax decision for you. Depending on your situation, the Swedish Tax Agency may need a preliminary A-tax decision or a SINK decision so tax is deducted correctly.

Vacation pay can appear in different ways depending on whether you are monthly paid, hourly paid or leaving employment. Ask payroll how vacation days and vacation supplement are shown in your specific contract.

Occupational pension may not appear as money paid to you, but it can still be part of the total package. Ask HR which pension provider receives payments and when you can see the first record.

Payslip rows to check

If something looks wrong, ask in writing before the next payroll closes. Attach the payslip, mark the row you are questioning and keep the answer. Clean payroll records matter later for renewals, mortgages and income checks.

Payslip rows to check

  • Check gross salary, pay period, tax deduction and bank account first.
  • Ask whether A-tax or SINK applies to your situation.
  • Clarify how vacation pay and vacation days are shown.
  • Keep written payroll answers for future income checks.
