Centre Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist will face a vote to become Sweden's prime minister on Tuesday, 3 November, despite saying the parties remain deadlocked over a centrist government.

Speaker Andreas Norlén will formally nominate her on Friday for a government comprising the Centre Party, Social Democrats, Christian Democrats, Greens and Liberals. The Riksdag vote is scheduled for 13:00.

Thand Ringqvist has accepted the nomination, but said on Thursday that the conditions for forming a centrist government are still missing. Her exploratory talks had sought a government led by Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson, rather than herself.

Christian Democrat leader Ebba Busch said her party would vote against Thand Ringqvist and continued to back Ulf Kristersson, Sveriges Radio reported.

A candidate is rejected if at least 175 MPs vote against. Otherwise the nomination passes, so Thand Ringqvist does not need a majority voting in favour. Parliament rejected Andersson on 15 October by 248 votes to 99.

If Thand Ringqvist is rejected, Norlén says Kristersson will receive the next exploratory mandate, Sveriges Radio reported. Kristersson continues to lead the caretaker government until a new administration takes office.
