Åkesson warns SD representatives to follow party line on Swedishness

Jimmie Åkesson has warned Sweden Democrat representatives to accept the party’s position that people can become Swedish or risk exclusion, intervening in an internal dispute over ethnicity and national belonging.
SVT reported on Friday that the party leader reaffirmed the programme’s emphasis on language, culture, identity and loyalty rather than ethnic origin.
The intervention follows a public disagreement between senior party figures Mattias Karlsson and Richard Jomshof. Karlsson has defended the programme’s position, while Jomshof has argued that biological ties and ethnicity also matter.
Karlsson welcomed Åkesson’s intervention and said he would leave the debate for now, according to SVT. The leader’s warning concerns representatives’ adherence to party policy; it does not change Swedish citizenship law.
