Åkesson holds strategy talks as Sweden awaits election result

Jimmie Åkesson says the Sweden Democrats have discussed how to respond to different parliamentary outcomes, as the party waits for a clearer election result.

Speaking to SVT as he left the Riksdag on Tuesday, the party leader described an internal strategy meeting as constructive. He said the discussions covered the parliamentary situations that could emerge and that the party would comment further once the result was clear.

Åkesson declined to assess the party’s election performance. SD parliamentary group leader Linda Lindberg, who also left the building, gave a positive assessment of the meeting but declined to discuss the result. Neither announced a government agreement.

The Election Authority estimates that nearly 300,000 late advance and overseas votes will enter the supplementary count beginning on Wednesday, 16 September. It expects an updated preliminary parliamentary result on Thursday. Those ballots then go to county administrative boards for the final recount.
