Åkesson tells SD voters: Don’t save the Liberals

Jimmie Åkesson has doubled down against tactical votes for the Liberals, calling them ideological opponents and a repeated brake on SD policy inside the Tidö cooperation.

Writing in an X post on Sunday, the Sweden Democrats leader said voters who want more SD policy should vote SD. A vote for the Liberals, he wrote, means less SD policy.
Åkesson said the parties stand on opposite sides over the EU, adopting the euro, climate policy and foreign aid. He praised Liberal leader Simona Mohamsson personally, but said that respect was separate from his view of her party.
The statement repeats the line he gave TV4 News earlier in the week. Åkesson then called the Liberals SD’s opposite inside the governing cooperation and said any rescue effort was a matter for Sweden’s bourgeois parties, not SD.
The message lands three weeks before the election, with the Liberals fighting to clear the four-percent parliamentary threshold. An SVT/Verian poll published this week put the party at 1.9 percent, making its survival a central risk for the governing bloc.
