Sweden Raises the Salary Bar for Work-Permit Extensions

Some existing permit holders can still use the older salary rule, but the filing window closes sooner than many expect.

A work-permit extension that looked routine in spring can now produce a different salary test. The deciding detail is when the application reaches the Swedish Migration Agency, not when an employer starts preparing it.

The agency’s extension guide says people whose current permit was granted under the earlier rules may still use the transitional 80 percent threshold when applying from 1 June through 1 December 2026.
