Sweden has started sending voting cards digitally to about 6.5 million voters, the first time digital cards are being used in a general election.

The Election Authority says digital cards are being delivered to digital mailboxes between 15 and 19 August. About 2.1 million voters without a digital mailbox, or who opted out of authority messages there, will receive paper cards between 17 and 26 August.

A voting card lists which elections a person may vote in, their electoral district and their election-day polling station. It does not have to be shown when voting; identification is enough, and a digital card does not need to be printed.

Early voting begins on 26 August. Anyone who finds incorrect electoral-register information can request a correction from their county administrative board by 1 September. Election day is 13 September.
