Sweden backs 17 cleaner transport projects with SEK 73 million

Sweden is putting SEK 73 million into 17 projects across road, sea and air transport, with the funding aimed at practical obstacles that can slow the move away from fossil fuels.

The Energy Agency says the work covers electrification, digital coordination and energy efficiency. The wider Sustainable Transport Systems programme runs from 2023 to 2031 with a total budget of SEK 525 million.

The project list ranges from electric regional aviation and wind-assisted ship design to fossil-free methanol, shore power and more resilient freight corridors. One project will examine local hydrogen systems for both climate goals and crisis preparedness.

The most immediate operational targets are on the road. One project will develop national decision support for electrifying emergency-service vehicles. Others will test coordinated charging for electric lorry fleets and ways to lower charging costs through dynamic power control.

The grants fund research and market-near development, not finished deployment. Their test is whether those ideas can cut energy use and emissions while making transport more robust and competitive.
