The Sweden Democrats say a unanimous committee decision to begin preparing a law against teenage deportations does not mean all eight parties support introducing one.

Migration spokesperson Jessica Stegrud told SVT the red-green parties had yet to specify the legislation or who it would cover.

Tuesday’s decision authorised preparatory work towards a committee initiative. It did not pass a law or suspend deportations.

The Greens interpret the vote as support for drafting a stop law and want government experts to help. The disagreement leaves the eventual legislation, and its parliamentary support, unresolved.
