Sweden’s four red-green parties plan to call Migration Minister Johan Forssell and the Migration Agency before MPs to ask how deportations of young adults can be halted while a new law is prepared.

The Social Democrats, Left Party, Centre Party and Greens intend to take the step at Tuesday’s social insurance committee meeting, according to TT’s report. They want answers on both a proposed stop law and an immediate pause by the agency.

Centre migration spokesperson Niels Paarup-Petersen said the best route would be for the government to listen to the committee majority and begin drafting legislation.

The proposed law could take several months to introduce. The caretaker government has promised to participate constructively in finding a solution, SVT reports.

The planned questioning does not itself change the rules or establish that deportations have been paused.
