The Left Party is seeking an immediate halt to deportations of young people who arrived in Sweden through family ties and face removal after turning 18 while their families remain.

In a committee initiative announced on 30 September, the party calls for changes to family-reunification rules and a route back for some young people already deported. The proposals have not changed the law.

Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar says stopping the removals was an election commitment. Parliamentary group leader Samuel Gonzalez Westling argues that parliament should act before a new government takes office.

The party wants people up to 21 to count as part of the nuclear family for residence permits based on ties to parents. It also seeks restoration of the particularly distressing circumstances provision removed in 2023.

For those already deported, it proposes ways to reunite with family in Sweden, including entry permits. These remain demands for government action, rather than permissions individuals can already claim.
