The rescue service issued an official public notice at 17:00 on Sunday. Boden municipality said crews were building more barriers in the town centre, while some roads remained difficult to use and could stay weakened after the water falls.

Schools and preschools remain open, but families were warned to allow extra time for Monday’s journeys. An orange SMHI flood warning covering Buddbyträsket, Bodträsket, Svartbyträsket and Ljusån runs through Tuesday 25 August.

SVT reported that water levels may be nearing their peak, although rescue chief Magnus Nilsson said he wanted to see the slowdown continue for several days before declaring the danger over.

A family in Svartbjörsbyn was told to leave its home for two weeks after sewage and rainwater rose 50 centimetres deep in the basement.
