The Social Democrats’ and Greens’ youth wings want Sweden’s four red-green parties to negotiate a joint budget before agreeing on a government, as cabinet disputes hold up cooperation.

SSU chair Moska Hassas and Green Youth spokesperson Anton Bylin set out that approach in Dagens Nyheter on Sunday. Hassas wants to prevent a caretaker budget from the outgoing Tidö government.

Bylin says Centre and the Left should pause their opposing cabinet demands to negotiate policy and a budget. He says his party has taken up Green Youth’s budget-first proposal.

The disagreement over who joins government remains. Young Left chair My Kårlycke defends the Left’s demand for cabinet posts, arguing that supporting previous Social Democratic governments from outside has failed to deliver what it wanted.

Centre youth chair Emelie Rossheim backs her party’s refusal to govern with the Left. Her preferred coalition instead brings together the Social Democrats, Centre, Christian Democrats, Greens and Liberals.

These are youth leaders’ demands, not an agreed budget or coalition. Even among those calling for faster talks, the terms for sharing power remain contested.
