Voting returned to neighbourhoods Sweden had struggled to reach

George Marzzouk was among the residents who voted in Ronna as participation rose in neighbourhoods where fewer than half of eligible voters had turned out four years earlier.

In Ronna north, turnout climbed 15.6 percentage points, from below 40% to above 55%, SVT reported. Vårby gård west rose 14.8 points and Rinkebysvängen east 11.6 points in the preliminary district results.

Södertälje had expanded voter information, opened Ronna's first advance-voting location and consolidated some polling places. The municipality plans an evaluation and has not established which measure caused the increase.

In Vivalla, about 65% voted, roughly 25% more than in 2022, according to Sveriges Radio. Abdulkadir Hassan at Folkets hus had worked to encourage residents to use their vote and believes participation could rise further.

The common result is not a party victory but a broader electorate in places long described through absence. The next test is whether local institutions can identify what worked and keep those voters engaged between elections.
