Telia plans to cut 260 jobs in Sweden

Telia plans to cut about 260 positions in Sweden by the end of the year as part of a group-wide reduction of around 900 jobs. The proposal covers employees and resource consultants and remains subject to union negotiations.
The telecom company’s announcement on Monday puts the Swedish cuts against a workforce of about 6,000. Finland faces the largest reduction, at around 280 positions, with further cuts planned in Norway, Lithuania and Estonia.
The reductions form part of a plan to save SEK 1 billion a year before offsetting costs. Telia also proposes moving around 220 positions, mainly from its shared technology operation, into its country units.
Chief executive Patrik Hofbauer said the changes would strengthen those units and make the company more efficient. He acknowledged that the proposals involved difficult decisions and that employees would need support.
Telia expects restructuring costs of around SEK 600 million in the fourth quarter. It aims to complete the changes by 31 December, subject to the negotiations, and says the full annual benefit to free cash flow would arrive from 2028.
