Teachers’ employers end agreement early; terms run until March

Sweden’s municipal employers have given notice to end their agreement with the teachers’ union early, opening negotiations over working time. Existing terms will continue to apply until 31 March 2027.
SKR and Sobona announced the termination of HÖK 25 on Friday. They say legislation adopted in June changes the basis for teachers’ working hours and requires an agreement built from the ground up.
The employers also cite other school reforms and changes in pupil numbers. SKR’s negotiating chief Jeanette Hedberg says the aim is to organise work in and around the classroom under terms suited to the new legislation.
Sveriges Lärare confirmed the timetable and said the notice has no immediate practical effect for its members. The existing agreement, including its general terms and the special provisions covering teachers’ working time and holiday pay, remains in force through March.
The union says it already knew the employers wanted to change working-time rules. The sides are due to exchange their bargaining demands in December.
