The Moderates' lead candidate in Tanum has criticised the M-led national government's approval of the Vidar offshore wind project in the Skagerrak.
Hans Schub told SVT that the planned development could damage commercial fishing and change the character of coastal communities. The Moderates lead Tanum municipality in coalition with the Centre Party and Christian Democrats and had previously opposed an establishment in the proposed area.
Vidar is planned about 38 kilometres from Grebbestad, with up to 75 floating turbines as tall as 370 metres and projected annual production of 7,800 gigawatt-hours. Because the site is in Sweden's exclusive economic zone rather than municipal waters, Tanum has no municipal veto.
The local Social Democrats also object to the placement while saying they do not oppose offshore wind generally. Government approval is not a construction start: majority owner Vattenfall said investment conditions for Swedish offshore wind are currently absent. SVT said it was seeking a response from the Moderates nationally.
