Some Swedish unemployment payments fall to 35% of former income
Some people receiving unemployment insurance under Sweden's new system are now getting as little as 35% of their former income, according to July data from Kommunal's a-kassa.

Just over half of the fund's new-system claimants received 80% in July, down from four in five in November 2025, the fund data shows. About one in five received 60% or less.
The figures cover Kommunal's a-kassa, not the entire national system, and the fund says there is no comparable dataset for the old rules.
Sweden introduced income-based unemployment insurance in October 2025. Sveriges a-kassor says payments fall by 10 percentage points after 100 benefit days and another five after 200.
IAF says the new rules apply to benefit periods decided from 1 October 2025; earlier periods remain under the old system.
