Swedish region pays SEK 657m to exit failed health-record system
Sweden's largest region will pay Oracle SEK 657 million to terminate the contract for Millennium, the health-record system whose rollout was halted after severe failures.

Västra Götaland's regional board approved the negotiated exit on Thursday. The region says the payment follows a termination clause in the 2018 agreement.
The region will keep older Oracle systems, including Melior, running for another eight years. That continuity matters to hospitals and clinics while VGR builds a replacement environment.
An official review last year recommended that Millennium not be restarted, citing low functionality, staff working conditions and patient safety. It proposed a modular system instead.
The region director told SVT the abandoned system had cost taxpayers SEK 1.3 billion. SVT said Oracle had been asked to comment.
