Swedish military asks government to seize property beside naval base
Sweden's Armed Forces has asked the government to authorise the forced takeover of a privately owned property beside Muskö naval base, saying the site is needed to strengthen its defence against drones.

The Fortifications Agency submitted the expropriation application on Tuesday at the military's request. The property is at one entrance to the base and has what the military calls unique conditions for improving protection, TV4 reported.
The military says the owner, a Russian citizen, poses a security threat. That is the authority's assessment; the government has not announced a decision on the property.
The application now goes to the Government Offices. In June, the government launched a separate legal review of whether Sweden needs a new expropriation ground for property ownership that may threaten national security. It is due by 31 March 2027.
Current expropriation law says permission should be refused if the public purpose can reasonably be achieved another way, or if the disadvantages outweigh the benefits.
