An English-language Swedish tech vacancy can still conceal three deal-breakers: Swedish fluency, local residency or security clearance. We checked which major employers offer credible routes for international engineers—and where the small print changes the opportunity.
Spotify listed 36 Stockholm openings when checked, including backend, machine-learning, security and engineering-management roles. Its recruitment guide says applications must be in English and candidates need a good grasp of the language.
Scania showed 15 engineering vacancies, with new Södertälje roles such as DevOps engineer and solution AI architect. One current AI requirements role requires English and makes Swedish an advantage, not a requirement.
Ericsson showed five Sweden vacancies in its filtered results, including graduate Silicon Academy roles in Kista and Lund and a senior video-coding researcher in Stockholm. The ads request applications in English, but candidates must still check each role’s location and security requirements.
Volvo Cars advertised a Gothenburg software-engineer role requiring fluent spoken and written English. Its application is also requested in English.
The pattern is narrower than “Sweden hires in English”: product companies, telecoms and vehicle software expose English routes, while Swedish may reappear in customer-facing, regulated or management work. Before applying, verify four things in writing: working language, Swedish requirement, relocation support and whether the employer will initiate a work-permit application.
Reporting note: vacancies were checked on 15 July 2026 and may close without notice.
