Sweden urges early renewals as 2.4 million passports expire
Swedish police are urging people to check passport expiry dates now, with 2.4 million passports due to run out in 2027 and about 500,000 more applications expected than in a normal year.

The Police recommends that anyone whose passport expires in the first half of 2027 apply in the coming months. Many documents issued during the post-pandemic travel rush in 2022 reach the end of their five-year validity next year.
Officials told TV4 on Wednesday that bookings are already rising. The agency is running an information campaign to spread demand and avoid a repeat of the long queues seen in 2022.
People can check their own and their children's expiry dates and book online through the Police's My Pages service. A booking can include up to eight people, and guardians can give consent for a child's application online.
Anyone without Swedish electronic identification cannot book alone online. The Police says they can ask someone with electronic identification to book for them or call 114 14. A passport costs 500 SEK.
