Sweden’s registered unemployment falls by 22,000 in June

Sweden had 22,000 fewer people registered as unemployed in June than a year earlier, but 148,497 had still been without work for at least 12 months, Arbetsförmedlingen’s latest figures show.

Arbetsförmedlingen counted 344,357 registered unemployed people, equal to 6.4% of the register-based labour force, down from 366,496 and 6.9% in June 2025. The decrease covered women and men, Swedish-born and foreign-born jobseekers, and every county.

Long-term unemployment fell from 151,979 to 148,497. Nearly 68,000 long-term unemployed people were born outside Europe, 6,000 fewer than a year earlier.

During June, 35,673 people left the register for work, up from 32,405. Arbetsförmedlingen expects the recovery to strengthen later in 2026, but says persistent long-term unemployment and skills shortages could leave many jobseekers outside the upturn.

The figures are Arbetsförmedlingen’s operational register statistics, not SCB’s official Labour Force Survey. July’s register data are due on 13 August.
