Sweden gets a partial eclipse Wednesday, but viewers need eye protection

Sweden will see a partial solar eclipse on Wednesday evening, 12 August, if skies are clear. Viewers should not look directly at the Sun without glasses made specifically for eclipses.

The partial phase is expected from about 18:45 to 20:54 CEST, according to Sweden timings. Totality will not be visible from Sweden, but the Moon will cover part of the Sun across the country.

Sweden's National Space Agency warns viewers that direct solar viewing can seriously damage the eyes. It says eclipse glasses are required whenever anyone looks toward the Sun during a partial eclipse.

SVT's guide recommends indirect viewing when proper protection is unavailable and says cloud cover will decide who gets a clear view. That makes preparation, rather than improvisation on Wednesday, the practical difference.
