52% of surveyed Muslim congregations report anti-Muslim incidents

More than half of 50 Muslim congregations and associations surveyed across Sweden said they had experienced an anti-Muslim incident from 2025 through May 2026.

The Expo survey found that 38% reported threats and the same share reported incidents they considered agitation against an ethnic or national group. Property damage or vandalism was reported by 26%, while 14% said religious gatherings had been disrupted.

The reported incidents included threatening messages, pig remains left outside mosques and graffiti at Stockholm Mosque. Individuals connected to 22% of the responding organisations were said to have faced threats or violence linked to anti-Muslim hostility.

Abdi Osman of Flen Mosque told Expo that repairs had cost almost SEK 200,000 and security measures nearly SEK 400,000 more. Members covered much of the bill, diverting money intended for young people. A state security grant did not cover the full cost.

Fifty-three percent of respondents said conditions had worsened over five years. The results describe the 50 organisations that answered; they should not be read as a prevalence estimate for every Muslim congregation in Sweden.
