Sweden narrows early-vote fault on election day

If you cast an early ballot at a location and time on Sweden’s new official list, vote again at your assigned polling station today, 13 September. The Election Authority says it cannot identify affected voters individually.

The official list names the voting locations and short time windows where ballots may have been registered incorrectly. It will keep changing as the authority’s analysis removes cleared locations.

The fault affected electronic registration of some early votes cast from 26 August to 3 September. It was corrected on 4 September, and registrations made since then are not affected. People with protected population records are also excluded.

Ekot reports that the authority has now cut its maximum estimate again: at most 300 voters may be affected, down from the previous ceiling of 500.

For anyone on the location-and-time list, the remedy is a new vote at the polling station shown on the voting card. That election-day ballot takes precedence over the earlier vote. The authority says the count itself will proceed as normal.
