Sweden’s late-vote count continues on Thursday

Counting of late-arriving early votes and overseas ballots continued in Sweden on Thursday morning, with some local election officials expecting the work to take much of the day.

Shortly after counting resumed at 09:00, SVT reported that five collection districts remained: Kalmar, Gothenburg, Uppsala, Arvika and Vellinge. Arvika expected to finish around 14:00, while Uppsala had no fixed finishing time. These were local estimates, not national deadlines.

The Election Authority expects the official parliamentary result over the weekend of 19–20 September. Completing the late-vote tally produces a preliminary result; formal confirmation follows the separate final count.

During that final count, county administrative boards examine and recount ballots and tally personal votes for individual candidates. The Election Authority then confirms the parliamentary result and appoints the elected members and substitutes. Results are updated as the work progresses.
