Sweden holds first citizenship test for invited applicants
Sweden’s first citizenship test takes place in Stockholm this morning, bringing the new knowledge requirement into a real exam room for applicants invited by the Migration Agency.

UHR says the 90-minute exam at Stockholmsmässan contains 60 multiple-choice questions in Swedish on Swedish society. Only people sent an invitation letter by the Migration Agency could register, and the free test filled all available places.
Candidates must show valid Swedish ID carrying a personal identity number; a foreign passport or electronic ID is not accepted. UHR says most test-takers will finish around noon. Results will appear in their accounts during autumn and go automatically to the Migration Agency.
The test follows citizenship-law changes that took effect on 6 June. Applicants can meet the society-knowledge requirement in other approved ways, and the language-test element will be introduced later. Five sample questions show the format.
TV4 profiled Tahereh Taqadussi, who travelled from Karlstad, took time off work and paid for a Stockholm hotel. She called the questions difficult and the extra cost unfair.
People who fail may get another chance, UHR says. The next test date will be announced in autumn.
