Sweden’s economy grew by 0.4% in the third quarter compared with the previous three months, an early estimate shows. September itself was weaker, with output down 0.7% from August.

The Statistics Sweden indicator, published on 29 October, puts third-quarter GDP 2.8% above the same period last year. September was 2.1% higher than a year earlier.

The monthly fall and quarterly increase measure different periods. A weak September therefore does not, by itself, mean the economy contracted over the whole quarter.

These are preliminary figures based on a limited set of data. The monthly indicator is experimental and sits outside Sweden’s official-statistics classification.

SCB will publish the regular national accounts for the third quarter on 27 November.
