About four in five people passed Sweden’s first citizenship test in civics, with candidates needing 28 points out of 40 to succeed.

The Higher Education Council, UHR, released the results on Thursday. It said 875 people took the test on 15 August and approximately 80% achieved a passing score.

The University of Gothenburg, which is responsible for the civics component, proposed the pass mark after an assessment by specialists in test design and evaluation. UHR approved that threshold.

The results concern the civics test, which forms part of Sweden’s new citizenship requirements. They do not describe outcomes in a Swedish-language test or the approval rate for citizenship applications.

UHR is transferring the results to the Migration Agency, which continues processing the citizenship cases. Passing the test does not itself grant Swedish citizenship.

Test takers can check their result through the account created when they registered. Registration for the next sitting is currently closed; UHR says information on its reopening will follow.
