Sweden recorded 73,000 more ongoing jobs in August than a year earlier, with health and social care making the biggest numerical gain. Information and communication employment fell, despite growth across most sectors.

The total reached 5.602 million, up 1.3%, according to figures Statistics Sweden released on 29 October. Its measure counts employment relationships, so one person can account for more than one job.

Health and social care added 19,000 jobs, a rise of 1.8%. Public administration increased by 16,000, or 4.3%, while hotels and restaurants added 10,000, up 3.9%.

Information and communication lost 3,000 jobs, a decline of 1.2%. Professional, scientific and technical activities fell by 1,000, or 0.2%. Employment increased in 16 of the 19 industry groups.

The figures describe jobs already held in August, rather than current vacancies. They show an uneven sector picture for workers and jobseekers, even as the national count rose.
