More than 300 incidents involving threats and violence against teachers were reported in Stockholm in September. The teachers’ union is demanding that the city’s education administration produce an action plan within two weeks.

Sveriges Lärare told SVT that serious incidents in the city’s primary schools had made the situation unsustainable. Chief safety representative Simon Sandström said the union had seen many particularly serious events.

The education administration disputes the description of an acute crisis. It attributes the rise in reports to work on the incident-reporting system.

That difference matters: the number records incidents reported, rather than establishing by itself how far violence has increased. The union is seeking measures across the administration, beyond responses at individual schools.
