Former Swedish PM Löfven reportedly receives death threats in Varberg

Former Swedish prime minister Stefan Löfven reportedly received death threats in central Varberg on Saturday afternoon. Police are investigating suspected unlawful threats but have not confirmed the complainant’s identity.

Several unknown people stopped in a car near Löfven and allegedly threatened to kill him, according to Aftonbladet.

Police spokesperson Emelie Lundqvist told the newspaper that the complainant was at a restaurant when a car stopped outside and threatening words were shouted from it.

Police were alerted at 16:32. Several patrols took part in the response and officers tried to locate the car.

Löfven declined to comment to TT through the Social Democrats’ press service, Aftonbladet reported.

No one had been arrested at the time of the report. Police had confirmed the investigation into unlawful threats, while the identification of Löfven and the account of death threats remained attributed to the newspaper’s information.
