School inspectorate opens Sigtuna investigation

Sweden’s school inspectorate has opened an investigation into Sigtuna Skolstiftelse, which runs Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket, following events at the school earlier this month and information received by the authority.
Skolinspektionen said on Tuesday that it is still planning the inspection. It expects to gather information through interviews and other methods, examining how the school meets education-law requirements, including safety and protection from degrading treatment.
Director-general Agneta Broberg stressed that the foundation remains responsible every day for keeping pupils safe, regardless of the regulator’s investigation.
The inquiry may take time because it will cover several aspects of the school’s work. The inspectorate said it will explain its conclusions when a decision is ready; it has not announced a finding.
Police are separately investigating the events reported in October. That criminal investigation is outside the school inspectorate’s role.
