SD’s Mattias Karlsson Bergman elected culture committee chair

The Sweden Democrats’ Mattias Karlsson Bergman has been elected chair of Parliament’s culture committee, with Green MP Leila Ali Elmi as vice-chair. The appointments are now confirmed, following earlier reports of the proposed allocation.
Parliament’s announcement on Wednesday lists the pair among the newly elected committee leaders. The chamber chose committee members on 6 October; the committees then elected their own chairs and vice-chairs.
Karlsson Bergman’s official parliamentary record dates his chairmanship from 6 October. He has represented the Sweden Democrats in Parliament since 2010 and was the party’s parliamentary group leader from 2014 to 2019.
The chairs and vice-chairs form each committee’s leadership and direct its work. The announcement confirms who holds those roles; it does not announce a new cultural-policy decision.
