SD denies dropping cabinet demand as Centre rejects extra talks

The Sweden Democrats insist they still want cabinet seats, while the Centre Party denies holding additional talks with SD beyond its leader’s contacts under the Speaker’s mandate.
SD told TV4 on Saturday that it would either join the government or remain in opposition. The party rejected a report that it was considering abandoning its demand for ministerial posts.
Aftonbladet had reported, citing unnamed sources, that SD’s leadership would discuss that possibility next week to make a right-wing government acceptable to Centre. Its sources also described contacts between the parties below leadership level.
Centre told the newspaper that no such meetings had taken place. It said the only contacts were between Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist and Jimmie Åkesson within her exploratory assignment, when she spoke to all party leaders.
Parliament is due to vote on Thand Ringqvist as prime minister at 13:00 on 3 November. Speaker Andreas Norlén has said that, if she is rejected, Ulf Kristersson will receive a week to explore forming a government.
