A government bringing together the Social Democrats, Greens, Centre and Left Party is preferable to another election for 83% of red-green voters in a new poll. Only 8% chose an extra election; 9% were unsure.

The Indikator poll, commissioned by SVT, surveyed 1,624 voters from those four parties between 2 and 7 October. Its findings describe that electorate, rather than Swedish voters as a whole.

A narrower Social Democrat-Green government, with neither Centre nor Left ministers, was also preferred to another election: 66% chose that option and 16% chose an election.

The findings expose room for compromise among voters while the parties remain divided over cabinet seats. SVT reports that Centre voters prefer a government including the Left to an extra election, while a narrow majority of Left voters prefer a cabinet without their own party to another vote.

Among the red-green respondents, 41% placed most responsibility for the difficulties forming a government on Centre and 39% on the Left.

The survey used Indikator’s randomly recruited Sweden panel, with 43% of invited panellists participating. It measures preferences between specified alternatives, not an agreement between the parties.
