Sweden’s four red-green parties ended Friday’s meeting without discussing who should sit in a new government, leaving their central dispute unresolved.

Centre leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist said government formation had not come up at Högberga gård on Lidingö, Sveriges Radio reported. The meeting brought the Social Democrats, Centre, Left Party and Greens together for briefings on Sweden’s challenges.

The leaders welcomed the chance to meet, but their accounts exposed the limits of the discussion. Thand Ringqvist said they could draw different conclusions from the same assessment. Green co-leaders Amanda Lind and Daniel Helldén said the parties had not discussed their red lines, according to SVT’s live reporting.

Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar remained optimistic, while saying she had received no answer from Magdalena Andersson about a place in government.

Thand Ringqvist put the next step in Andersson’s hands. The Social Democratic leader must report to the parliamentary speaker on Monday.
