SVT reports that visitors have posed as deaf and unable to speak, carrying a folder or paper and asking for money or signatures. Police say the pattern began in Skåne, moved through western Sweden and Bergslagen, and may now be moving north.
A police notice from Storfors describes a man using this approach at an older resident's home. The resident later found jewellery and cash missing. Police ask anyone with information to call 114 14.
Do not let an unknown visitor into your home. If a suspected scam is happening or the visitor is on the way, call 112.
