People living in selected northern Swedish towns can apply from Monday 19 October for part-time police training that lets them stay near home. Applications close on 10 January 2027, with studies starting in autumn 2027.

The northern intake covers towns across Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Västernorrland and Jämtland, including Kiruna, Vilhelmina, Sollefteå and Strömsund. Applicants must live in and want to work in one of the designated areas.

The course at Umeå University runs at 75–80% of full-time study for five terms, followed by six months of full-time police placement. Students must attend practical teaching on campus and pay their own travel and accommodation costs.

The usual entry requirements still apply. Applicants must be Swedish citizens, including dual citizens, and at least 18. They need the required school qualifications and must pass the suitability and medical assessments. A Swedish category B driving licence is required by the start of training.

After successfully completing the studies and placement, recruits are offered a police-assistant post in their chosen local area, beginning with six months’ probation. The Police Authority’s course page links to the application route and regional contacts.
